Should I pay monthly or one-time for a website in Dubai?
Pay one-time for the build and monthly only for services that genuinely recur — hosting, maintenance, SEO, ads. The distinction that matters is not the payment schedule; it is whether you own the asset at the end.
A “website from AED 500 per month” offer usually means you are renting. Stop paying and the site goes offline, because you never owned the code, the hosting, or sometimes even the domain. Over three years that AED 500 a month is AED 18,000 for something you cannot take with you.
The question that settles it: if I stop paying you in month 13, what do I keep? If the answer is nothing, it is a rental, whatever it is called. If the answer is the full site, hosting account and domain in your name, the monthly is genuine service.
When does a monthly model actually make sense?
Three cases where it is a reasonable choice. Cash flow — a new business that cannot commit AED 7,000 upfront but can manage a monthly figure. Genuinely bundled services — a plan including hosting, maintenance, SEO and ad management, where most of the value is ongoing work rather than the build. Platforms where renting is the model, like Shopify, where you are knowingly paying for a hosted service.
What makes those defensible is that you know what you are buying. The problem case is a monthly plan sold as ownership.

What is a normal payment schedule?
For a one-time build, a deposit and a balance. We work on 60% to start and 40% on completion, which is standard for the UAE market.
Be cautious of two extremes. 100% upfront removes your leverage entirely. Nothing upfront sounds generous and usually means the agency will deprioritise you the moment a paying project appears.
Get the milestones in writing: what triggers each payment, what is included, how many revision rounds, and what happens if the project stalls on your side. Ours includes one full revision round on Business and two on Premium, with extra rounds at AED 200 each.
What about “free” websites?
Free builds usually recover the cost through mandatory hosting at several times market rate, locked to a contract. The build was never the expensive part; the lock-in is.
Check the total over three years, and check the exit terms specifically. A free website on AED 800 a month hosting is an AED 28,800 website with an exit fee.
